In 2012 a GPS resurvey of the border between the Carolinas pushed the line about 150 feet south around Lake Wylie. Several properties that had been counted as South Carolina ended up in North Carolina, and at one house the new line runs between the house and its back deck.
Google's sense of who serves which area shifts too, and it rarely announces it. A business that showed up for "Lake Wylie" searches last year may be losing ground to a company across the bridge now. Checking where you really appear is where every Google listing review starts.

One crossing, three bridges
Rebuilt when the load outgrew the span.
The Buster Boyd Bridge carries Highway 49 over the lake between Lake Wylie and Steele Creek. It has been replaced twice, each time because the old one could no longer do the job being asked of it.
Websites hit that point too. If yours was built for a smaller version of your business, a new build may cost less over time than patching the old one.
The first crossing
Cars started using the first bridge on January 9, 1923. It carries the name of William Monroe “Buster” Boyd of Steele Creek, who lobbied for a paved road from Charlotte and then for a bridge over what was still called Lake Catawba. At the August celebration both governors came, biplanes flew under the center span, and the crowd was put at about 12,000.
A second span
A replacement opened in October 1961. By then the water had a new name: in 1960 Lake Catawba became Lake Wylie, after Dr. W. Gil Wylie, one of the founders of the power company that built the dam.
Four lanes
Today's bridge began carrying traffic on June 16, 2001, and all four lanes were finished in September 2003. It is the only bridge where North Carolina sits on the southern end and South Carolina on the northern end.

Is your office in Lake Wylie?
No, and we won't pretend otherwise. The office is in Mooresville, NC, about 44 miles away by I-77, I-485 and Highway 49, a little over an hour's drive with clear roads. Most projects run by phone, email and screen share, and Roger drives down when a sit-down would help.
Can you help if my customers come from the North Carolina side?
Yes. Steele Creek is right across the Buster Boyd Bridge, and a lot of lake businesses serve people from both states. If that describes you, the site and your Google listing should speak to both sides of the water.
